Azaleas

Do azaleas do well in Arizona? I have planted one in the shade and mulched it well. Some of the leaves are getting brown. What is the problem?

I've certainly seen references to them growing in parts of Arizona, Usha. If you bought it from a good local nursery, that is a good sign the plant should grow where you are. How much water is it getting?

I have mulched it well. I was watering it twice a day, but now decided to water it on alternate days. It rained here yesterday. So I have ti watch how it does with the alternate day feeding.

I can't imagine that a plant in shade needs watering twice a day, Usha. The best thing to do is to stick your finger in the ground a few times to get a sense for how quickly your soil really dries out.

I am cutting down the water. Thanks, Douglas.
