How to repaint a picture frame

I have a beautiful picture within a glossy white frame. I would like to change color of frame. Would acrylic paint work?

I had some frames that I wanted to change the color off. As long as you prep the wood by sanding them and wiping them off the acrylic paint will work fine. Have fun with it.

Acrylic paint does work, but much easier to spray paint. With spray paint you do not have to seal.

A better idea for sandy finish. Spread some glue on the frame and then sprinkle coarse sand. Let it dry and then apply oil/acrylic paint with spray gun/ brush/ foam. You will love coarse texture. You may also use straw/ saw dust/thread pieces in place of sand

If it has glossy finish now, you will need to roughen that up to allow new paint to stick. 2 Ways to do this. One is to hand sand it with sandpaper. The other is to get a can of a liquid de-sander. Most any paint center will have this product. It roughens the glossy surface chemically. Less work. Follow instructions to re-paint the frame.

I agree with the spray painting. I have painted dozens of frames. Just lightely sand and have at it. Good luck

Spray would work great. However you should prime it first to make sure that the paint adheres to the glossy surface. You can buy primer in a spray form too. Also if you want to skip that step, you could lightly sand it and paint it with chalk paint (I use Annie Sloan).

The most important thing with any painting project is your prep. If you do that right you'll have better results. Sand, prime, paint & protect it to make it last.
