Sia@South 47th on Jul 20, 2013@Elyse Yep, we are on the Southside with vacant fields all around being "revitalized" with new construction etc. Geez. THANK YOU! The City wouldn't give me any info regarding the Southside, as we are in the "County" and the "County" has voice-mail, that I guess noone answers. I thought it was 'strange, that I didn't see any Mice around. Now I know why! The snakes are eating them!! Thank you again!Helpful Reply

Pamela on Jul 21, 2013We lived in West Sacramento, in a mobile home park and I found two very young rattlers in my carport on two different occasions. We thought that maybe we had a nest under the mobile but a very brave termite man went under for an inspection and said he found no snakes. Really strange and did I mention I am scared to death of snakes?Helpful Reply

Nanci Haskin on Oct 19, 2013We just bought a home in Chino Hills, CA on 1/4 acre. I am told that rattlesnakes are very common. I am very concerned about our grandchildren playing in the yard as well as a very curious little dog. Any deterrent suggestions?Helpful Reply

Capernius on May 03, 2015Sounds like dinner is almost ready!!! When having to deal with Rattle Snakes on a regular basis, first thing to do is to get Snake Proof Chaps or boots. for the benefit of the uneducated, chaps are an article of clothing that one wears over one's jeans....in this case, to keep a poisonous snake from sinking their fangs into you. Now you can buy chaps & boots that say "snake proof" or you can just buy a high quality leather boots (make sure the leather is as thick as possible), or a good heavy pair of leather chaps(again, the thicker the leather, the better). Next, find out where the nest is....or where they are coming from... once you find out where they are coming from, the next step is to either prepare the grill, or get a big cotton bag & gather up as many snakes as you can(in the bag), put the bag filled with snakes in a garbage can(for transport) & take them out in the desert(where there are no people for about 20 miles in any direction) & set them free...about 50 miles away should work.... Will this solve the problem? not a chance.... but it will eventually thin them out in your area.... SNAKE FACTS: a snake, any snake, can only strike at you or their prey for the length of one half of their total length. EX: a 4 foot snake, has a striking distance of about 2 feet....a 8 foot snake has a striking distance of about 4 feet. More snake information can be seen here: http://www.wikihow.com/Differentiate-Between-Poisonous-Snakes-and-Non-Poisonous-Snakes https://nwtactical.wordpress.com/2013/05/25/how-to-identify-a-venomous-snake-from-a-non-venomous-snake/ FOOTNOTE: the average person has no idea on how to capture a snake, so do not even try. sometimes, a metal shield is needed to keep you & family members from getting bit....the bigger the shield, the better....the shield should only be used to get close enough to the snake to get to a loved one to remove them from the area....you can always get a new dog or cat....you can not get a new son or daughter. when a snake(poisonous or not) is discovered, and all family members are safely away(this includes pets), the best coarse of action is to call animal control or the police/sheriff's dept. if you can get into the house, do so & do not leave the house until the snake(s) is gone.Helpful Reply

Suellen Hintz on May 26, 2016Native Texan with some knowledge of rattlesnakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths but as an adult I lived outside of Austin, towards Bastrop. Off the hwy, onto country two-lane blacktop roads with gravel shoulders...frequently would see rattlers with their tail on the gravel shoulder, body on the blacktop, and head on the far gravel shoulder. Amazingly big around and long. When we had bulldozer work done at that house I went out to see what my cats were doing and made eye contact with a rattler. I went to the house to get my shotgun but the snake was gone. I then realized I was in a bulldozed yard with downed trees with a rattlesnake that I couldn't see. Carefully returned to my house. Chop heads off with a hoe like my father did; we didn't relocate them. ..sorry. These are dangerous animals in populated areas.Helpful Reply
