Making fabric stiff

I would like to make a large "flower" from fabric. I need to know how to make it stiff enough it can be hung from the ceiling, with feather " butterflies" attached, like a mobile.

I know you can use 'dope' a 50-50 blend of glue and water to stiffen stuff like muslim fabric, you might could experiment around with that and paints to get the effect you want

Plaid make a product called Stiffy (yes I know). It will stiffen fabric. The more you use the stiffer it gets.

At Joann Fabrics (and probably other craft stores) you can buy Aleene's Fabric Stiffener. This is where I looked: http://www.joann.com/search/_stiffeners/ They also sell one by Martha Stewart. I have used starch as well to stiffen doilies, etc. You might want to thin it more than recommended and dip it more than once. Sometimes it works better. As others say, experiment.
