Crap GRASS
so my question is what can I put on the grass that won't kill the lillies and dogwood tree in the same area. I've tried the spray stuff that you put on grass surrounding ornamental plants, and it's suppose to kill the grass....it doesn't work on the grass I'm talking about....

Douglas Hunt on Jun 09, 2012You can use an herbicide containing glyphosate as long as you don't actually get it on the leaves of the other plants. You'll get more control if you apply it directly to the grass with a foam brush.Helpful Reply

Jean M on Jun 09, 2012yes Steve, it is possible to cover the area with paper/plastic and mulch, but I hope to plant some more lilies and maybe some more plants before I do that :)...and Douglas, thanks, I'll look for that name in some herbicides. I've killed most of it with a herbicide (can't think of the brand name now, but it's one of the big ads on television that says it kills it right down to the root), but the grass still manages to keep coming back. The root system of this grass is pretty strong, as compared to my St. Augustine grass, wish I could combine the two kinds of grasses actually :). My other question, if do apply a herbicide with Glyphosate, how much can the lilies and other plants absorb since the grass is growing right up to the plants?Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Jun 10, 2012A part of my yard looks sparse while the rest is lush. I asked my Tru Green guy about it and he said I needed to put out some lime...and that the lime would get rid of the small amount of moss I have in that area. I put out the lime and after it rained, my yard perked up! Were I you, I would try putting out some lime. It won't hurt your grass. It is also a good idea to lime across the front of your yard where the 4 legged neighbors use the potty! It cuts the acid and disinfects! Any yard with dogs need to be limed regularly!Helpful Reply

Jean M on Jun 10, 2012yes, you're right, lime helps do away with yellowing in the grass. Luckily, I don't have any neighbors around me that have a dog any more. I'm still trying to get rig of the grass since I plan to make a garden area. Thanks, Jeanette :)Helpful Reply
