Janet Pizaro on Jul 28, 2016Concrete is very paintable but it will be a long process due to the existing carpet. All residue must be removed , followed by a good cleaner for cement. Once dry you can paint the concrete with outdoor paint. You must seal it so it does not crack. Temperature plays an important role as well. I recommend reading the instructions prior to starting. Sealers can make your patio slippery so I advise you to speak to a reputable dealer for further advice on that.Helpful Reply

Galen W. Yoder on Jul 30, 2016The carpet is showing wear, and the paint will too sooner or later. Even an interior CC slab will have moisture rising out of it, which will begin the paint peeling and blistering process. Test the moisture by taping some clear plastic over a 12" x 12" area of the exposed concrete slab. Tape all the way around all 4 edges of the plastic and see how much moisture will develop under the plastic in 24 hr time frame. There Will be a lot of prep work removing the carpet & the glue resins left behind----Have you considered going over the top of the slab with Pavers?, there are lots of color and design options that could make an ugly CC slab into a really nice looking Paver Patio-Wouldn't have to prep-paint, and repaint every other year, Just sayin!Helpful Reply

The Piddler on Jul 30, 2016You can simply stain the concrete with cement stain. Clean it first. If you want, you could use 2 different colors for a muddled look.Helpful Reply

The Piddler on Jul 30, 2016If the concrete is smooth, It would be a smooth finish. Muddled would look something like a sponged paint job. I did the a patio for a friend and simply used a mop to apply the stain. Use a light color first and then just lightly go over it lightlywith a little darker shade. Or....just stain it one color.Helpful Reply

The Piddler on Jul 30, 2016Forgot to mention to add water or a medium to the second coat. That is what allows the first color to show through. 🙀Helpful Reply
