If you quilt make a tie quilt. Take to a seniors center for others or donate to a thrift shop. but don't throw away they are a very expensive accessory.

Check Pinterest for dying Easter eggs with silk ties.
I've seen throw pillows done with ties and shirts.
If you check Etsy or Pinterest, people make flowers from neckties, either for brooches, hair clips, on stems for arrangements.
Use as you would any other scraps of fabric. Just keep in mind that some ties are fragile and can't be washed with heavy duty fabric items. That said,
1). Silk ties can be cut into interesting shapes and appliqued onto a larger item. (For example: cut a tie into the shape of a canoe, another in the shape of a tree, yet another becomes the creek. Layer them together then applique it onto a pillow).
2). Refurbish the worn out inside lining of your suitcase and extend its useable life. (This creates an unexpected burst of color when you open it up).
3). Take advantage of the narrow strips and make draft socks for exterior doors.
4). Try weaving a basket from old ties.
Cut them open and then stitch the strip together for a table cloth or runner or cut to size for place-mats
If you have grown children make quilted throws and pillows.
Think of them as free fabric.
