How to white wash a brick wall?

If by commitment you mean time involved to complete the painting project, know now that white washing is time consuming. That said, your description of your interior finishes would really go well with that brick process.

you would best be served by beginning with painting the grout.. Use a small brush and really get in there, trying not, at this point, to get paint on the brick itself. Allow that to dry completely. Then, depending on how much of the actual brick you want to cover, start with a mixture of 50/50 paint to water. I suggest a test area to see how you might want to adjust that proportion. Complete the whitewashing, then go back to intensify some of the corners, edges, etc. So your completed project will have some depth.

Years ago, while I was growing up and still in my parent's house, my father painted the fireplace. He first cleaned the brick with muriatic acid and then he let the brick dry completely and he then painted over the brick. Brick is porous, so it will take a lot more paint than you might think, so thinning the paint with water if it is a water-based paint is a good idea.

i did this in my old house but i did 75 water to 25 water cause when i tried 50/50 was too white hope this helps and yes must clean first i used tsp think it was call ask the clerk at store
