Pick something that you love about the room you want to paint, whether its a painting , piece of furniture or a pillow and take a photo of that to the paint section with you . Take home as many of those little color cards as your heart desires, because as you well know , once its painted...its staying that color for awhile .
Paint preferences are individual. If I were you, I'd go through decorating magazines and pull out pictures of rooms that speak to you. Build a design board. Focus on how the colors feel. Do they make you happy? Cozy? At home? What's the feeling you want to get from the room. Use that as a jumping off point.
Gray is a biggie right now, but trends change. Granted it's stayed around a long time, but so did builder beige. ;-) If you put trends aside and go with what warms your heart, be it gray, beige, or chartreuse, you can't go wrong. (Well, mostly not. I've made a color choice or two that I still cringe over. What was I thinking? Still, it was my choice so I own it, as should you.)
I've found the little cards really don't help. Get several small containers of paint and make sample boards you can move around during the day. Colors change with light.
Start with color charts for ideas.Once you find something that will work in your home, get sample jars and try them out.Things to remember about paint certain colors will look different in the home based on lighting.
The senses here really is glass jars of sample colours ! I shall do that when it's time. Thank you all so very much for your ideas . So kind of you all! Happy Mother's Day to each of you!
