Chalk paint requires little prep, just a light sanding and wiping the dust off.
If your not into sanding and you want to paint wash the furniture down with TSP and make sure you rinse it well with water then any enamel style paint that doesn't need a primer should work. The better the paint quality the better the paint finish.
