I've done this in numerous rooms in order to have a single wall that's different to stand out as a feature wall. Often you'll see a bright colour on that wall as a way to introduce some colour to a room. Some people wall paper a single wall to have as a feature wall, and some people use a different coloured paint, instead.
The idea here is to create a focal point for the room. An accent wall is like a bright scarf with a neutral colored dress, it draws the eye to a pop of color while allowing the dress to remain functional. Accent walls are great ways to break up large spaces, showcase great architectural features, or just take the ordinary to the extraordinary.
No reason just preference I love accent walls and have it in every room. They make a bold statement.
Drama.
It is an outdated 80's decor idea that says 'look at me' for attention purposes and found in a lower class track homes. It gets very old very quick. Tonal differences work to show off architectrual features, bt not color differences.
As a highlight or accent to the room. Or to bring attention to whatever you have in front of the wall.
If you have darker furniture, you may want to place your dark couch in front of a lighter, coordinating wall to the other three. Hope this helps.
