I would just use cardboard boxes since they like to destroy them. That is what I use for my dog toys. If you want to go stronger a wood box or crate that you can line may work and last a bit longer.
sorry, but that is the nature of puppies....if it is at their height, it is fair game to be chewed.....I have used an old metal washtub and they still tried to chew that, but it did survive better than anything else....or get a new one from Home Depot.....or use any other metal box you can find....metal can not be chewed even by the Caucasian shepherds I breed
Anything you build or buy that is wood will be toast by the weekend. I suggest a stainless steel indoor trash can. It's durable, round so there are no attractive corners to grab onto, and are pretty reasonable. I hope this link helps.

Walmart has metal tubs. That should work.
I bought a 26" hard plastic container and lay it on its side and let my dog pull out the toys she wants.
I have a metal tub (came with a stand), like a wash tub and it has been great for over 8 years now.
