How to finish off a latex/medium painted upholstery without wax

Help!!,This is the first time I tried painting some upholstered chairs they did turn out pretty good with more like a micro suede/leather texture. I already know they do not transfer any paint to clothing but since I did not use chalk paint but regular latex with fabric medium should I do anything else for durability such as iron them , spray the fabric with some sort of stain guard?? This is my first attempt at this so I really dont know what I should do , would so appreciate anyones expertise on this subject. Thanks

That is a really good question. I've looked into painting fabric before and never heard of adding any wax. But I googled your question exactly as it is and discovered that wax can be a good thing. Here's a link I found where she does wax the fabric:

I personally don't think it would hurt to spray it with stain guard. That might help it stay fresher looking for longer. One thing I have noticed as I've read about many upholstery painting techniques is that this won't last forever, - but what finish will? If you want to try the wax, I would suggest you try it on the back and see what you think. Let it sit for a while - a week? a month? 6 month? I don't know how long but after a while, you should be able to tell if it is worth doing.

Nadley, Chalk paint always needs some kind of sealer because of the nature of the product, but latex paint doesn't need that to be fine. Yes, you can further protect latex with a sealer but most people don't use wax for the purpose with latex. Hope that helps. I wish you the best with your project!
