Usually you can rub light sandpaper over the areas that would normally get worn but you're right they don't say EXACTLY where to do it. I think this is where the artist in you has to come out. The person in this link did use chalk paint but she explains where to do it and how to use Vaseline to make it easier. I hope this helps;

I use a really find grit sand paper, anywhere from 200-400 grit, and lightly sand where I think signs of wear would be, like the edges, parts that stick out, handles or knobs. Trial and error, and if you don't like the look, repaint and try again!
Hi Michele. I use a fine grit sandpaper and then lightly sand all edges and corners to make it look distressed.
I would run the sandpaper on the areas of the furniture that would get normal wear and tear (corners, bottoms, near the drawer pulls) and sand it there.
