You should have your dryer vent cleaned out once a year. Next, check out the next time you dry clothes, look outside where your vent is. If it's cold outside you'll see what looks like smoke. Also vaccum inside the dryer, remove the lint screen. The next thing to do is wash the screen with soapy water and rinse well, and dry completely, before putting it back.
Is it possible to reroute the vent? If you disconnect it from the dryer and check inside you should be able to see if its full of lint, or clogged.
