a pantry is just a storage place. Usually for food, canned goods. One of my aunts has her pantry in an under the bed plastic storage container. She lives in an apartment...my pantry is a metal shelving unit. My mom has shelves in between studs in her basement. There's brackets to hold just about any size boards and rail systems for any basement. My favorite used the cement wall the rails of the shelves hung from the cinder block.
if if you have an old but serviceable bookcase use it. Having a pantry allows you take advantage of sales
I should add.....I had some ask me what a pantry was and what did I do with it. Out in farm country...your grocer may be 60 miles away.
Plan on attaching the shelf (bookcase, I presume) to the wall because a loaded pantry will be very heavy. If this is for the kitchen, look over the items you have in your cabinets now. If you have lots of canned goods, determine how much space you will use for cans. Can a row hold three cans back to front? How many rows? Measure taller items like boxes of cereal and pancake syrup. Do you have a shelf for tall items? You might be able to work in additional shelves, especially if they are moveable. That will allow for adjustments after you see what will work best. 😇
