Hello Barbara :) As I understand this partial message you are having trouble with your new paint peeling off of something and you are wondering why. Right? It would have to do with improperly preparing the surface to be painted. Even if it was previously painted and you washed it down with hot soapy water, you may not have gotten off all of the oils or grease (especially if whatever it was had previously been painted with an oil-based paint and then you painted over it with a water-based paint). Even if you had lightly sanded the area to be painted (togive the paint a slightly ruffed surface to cling to) and wiped the sanded surface off with a damp rag to remove the dust from the light sanding, you may not have gotten off ALL the oil and grease (just smeared it around). So what's a person to do? Well you may just have to scrape it all down and remove the paint and start all over again. This time wash down the surface with Trisodium Phosphate (known also as TSP) the very first thing. Mix one part TSP wit h4 parts water and THOROUGHLY wash down the item. Wear a face mask and rubber gloves because TSP is nothing to take lightly, It is a serious cleanser and WILL remove ALL oils and grease for whatever it touches. After washing it all down use hot water and rinse well. Then lightly sand the object and wipe it down with a damp rag. Apple a primer for the paint to cling to, and once the primer is dry, apply the paint that you want to use. Once it is dry, apply a second coat of the same color (or the designs or stencils you want), and when dry apply a sealer.
