How can I make dark branches look like Birch Bark branches please

Light colored paint lightly sanded when dry, like antiquing.
You could try painting it a grey-ish white (seal the branch with a matte sealer first, so it won't absorb the paint) then go back and sand or scrape off the white in a pattern that looks like birch... then seal again
