Can I just chalk paint over this furniture?
the stain has to be removed for the paint to adhere properly
paint won't stick to it very good, I would sand it down then paint
sand thoroughly, wipe off all sawdust, then paint.
I tried to freshen up some old wood cabinets with new stain and polyurethane. Didn't like it when I was done. So I bought some Zinsser Bulls Eye paint (for primer), then two coats of kitchen cabinet paint, and they looked like new. No sanding and no mess.
Sure just sand and clean first!
Yes just be sure to use a good primer like Kilz or Zineer to prevent it from bleeding through the paint.
