Agree that a neutral lighter color would be best as it reflects the most light, which is important if you live in a northern area where the winter days are short.

It will also give you the most versatility in full range of colors that you can add to the room, and switch items as the seasons change.

I would not recommend doing an "accent" wall though. This is a somewhat misused term to refer to one wall painted a different color from the three others. With interior decorating, "accent" refers to adding color a little bit at a time, arranged throughout the room, not one blocked wall.

Although it was somewhat trendy a few years back, it has gone out of favour, as it tends to make the room lopsided and very heavy in one area. Having a whole wall a separate color also makes it difficult to arrange furniture, match the exact color with other items in the room, and will reflect the lighting in the room unevenly.

If you're talking paint color, I have a neutral sand color throughout my house. Then I change up pillows, throws, etc. seasonally. I prefer getting my pop of color from accessories.

If youre looking for COLORS ~ I would use a very neutral wall paint shade and change up the colors with accessories (pillows, throws, lampshades, window treatments, throw or area rugs, wall art, flower arrangements, chatczkes, etc.).
