I’ve had good luck with the chrome spray paint. I think spray would be the best way to go. Best to take the door off it’s hinges to do it neatly. Be sure to paint a top coat on.

Sand and prep the door properly. I would go with a spray paint to avoid the brush marks.
In painting my front door, I didn't do copper, but I did do 2-3 coats of polyurethane. I want the door to look good for years to come.
