Which side of Insul brite is the right side?

ie, in a pot holder which side should face outside - the smooth or batting side?

Probably the smooth side for two reasons,better grip and insulation.
I believe the shiny/smooth side is the heat resistant side, so that should face out.
A site that sells Insul-Bright had the same question asked. The metallic side goes toward the temperature that you are trying to contain.
Most potholders are made with Insul-Brite and a layer of batting, the order doesn't matter. As far as I know, it shouldn't matter which way you put it as there is no "right" or "wrong" side.
