We have painted Latex Kilz primer on the all the areas and two coats of latex paint and these spots started coming through.
Hi, I live in Southern California which is described as a “Mediterranean” climate. We have a redwood sided house and used a redwood tinted sealer on our wood. It went on easily and has done a great job for us. I don’t remember the brand but it was an Exterior Wood Siding Water Sealer.

We have always used Spar Varnish for any wood that will be outdoors (Spar Varnish was developed for use on boat masts and spars... holds up to damp weather)
Spar Varnish is a good choice. In fact Marine Spar Varnish is even better. In addition, here is information to consider when painting outdoors when it is hot:
