I would not use propane inside. https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/space-heaters/buying-guide
I would look at small electric heaters (no gas, no piping, no venting).
Rennai makes very nice heaters but I can't say they are inexpensive and I can't offer info on anything central.
The small room heaters don't use that much electricity but are so much safer. I have one that we used for a month while my son and family stayed with us and I didn't even notice a change in my bill. I would much rather see you live in 1 or 2 rooms than dead from fumes or burned to death from a gas heater.
Sorry, I am very much a promoter of using gas in the home, I have a gas range, and forced air heater that is about 40 years old with a 60+ non vented bathroom heater. But I am also the wife of a retired fire fighter and have heard the horror stories too often.
When I mentioned the electric heater we used it was across December and January (the coldest time in Texas). These heaters usually run under $50 and will heat a large room.
