yes....Marine Varnish.http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/make-and-decorate/upcycling/how-to-turn-a-dresser-into-a-bathroom-vanity
The only thing that would prevent warping is not allowing it to get wet. So if you are using it as is, I would suggest a few good coats of marine spar varnish in a satin finish on the top, outside, and inside bottom, and before you set the sink, I would really do the cut edge very well .... http://www.woodworkingshop.com/product/vr60169/?inMed=GSTORE&dfw_tracker=18711-4759&gclid=CjwKCAiA1uHSBRBUEiwAkBCtzb2CCoMtgdsjCzd0CIUUEcJRhGobnwWgjaOlhfwCAcEhXO4iRe0EmhoCqiQQAvD_BwE
Hi Patti. I think it would be fine. My bathroom vanities are all wood, but not the top. I would put several coats of polyurethane to get a good seal on the top.
The only way something will warp is if you have excessive moisture in the room. If the bathroom does not have a vent fan then I would suggest that one be installed. If you have an air Xchanger then there will be no need for extra venting.
It won't warp. You already bought a cabinet kit, use it. But you don't need to use a cabinet kit. You can just clean, lightly sand, prime with a good stain blocking primer, then use regular paint, seal with ate least three coats of a water based polyurethane. You can paint the inside, but it;s not necessary. Some have painted the drawer sides to give a finished look. Here are what other Hometalkers did.

Yup it'll be totally fine, put a few coats of a poly acrylic on the top to help protect from water damage. I have two vanities in my home I made out a buffet and a dresser and they work great!
BTW that is GORGEOUS!!!
Hi Patti,
There is more than one way to prevent warping of the dresser top. You can click on the link below to read what one person did about the possibility of this issue. I know you already bought the kit, but as William said, you really don't need it. I also agree with William about painting the inside. It's not necessary but is it worth fighting with your husband? If it would make him happier, let him paint it. :) Wishing you the best.

you could pour clear expoxy over it and it will give you a beautiful look. And it doesn't matter if water gets on it. You just wipe clean. I refinished my bathroom countertop using Giani countertop refinishing kit and then covered it with epoxy and it turned beautiful and no worries if water gets on it.
