use block out shades
I'd suggest hanging your curtains on a wider rod, maybe several inches from the molding on each side. Best of luck.
Make sure the rod is installed up over the wood trim, and past the sides, so when the curtain is hung it covers the window completely. Get room darkening curtains, and/or a roller shade. http://www.brylanehome.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?SearchHeader=room%20darkening%20curtains&stype=text
I wake up as son as light comes in my room, so I have both a roller shade inside the window frame and that pretty much blocks out the sun for me. I have been thinking about adding a room darkening curtain or something to block out the little bit that comes in the side. Waking up at five o'clock or earlier in the morning during the summer every day is the pits, at least in the winter I get about another hour for a while.
if you want a nice dark bedroom....foil the windows, and tape in place. 27 years working night shift....it’s worked for me.
I made my window quilts, and I used sticky vellcrow. Just stick the sticky one to the frame of the window frame, and then you can sew the other one to the quilt or blanket, that you want to cover your window with. Then, if you really want to save money, hang up some insulated drapes, over the blanket (I am using that as an example) and this will really save money on winter expenses, and will darken your home as well. Best wishes. I did all my windows, and this is great. I can switch them, to a diff room if I want to, just for a change. J.
Mel - if you have any questions on this, just ask, we can think of other ideas, too. Have a nice day.
I use black out curtains but more specific I'm referring to the light that comes in around the curtain...any suggestions for this?
Paint the window black. If that doesn't work for you, tack the curtain around the window.
We have miniblinds/pull down shades. Curtains are over or on the outside of those.
