I'm completing my first project of painting an old stand up dresser.

I painted the front and sides with a black satin Colormaster Acrylic/laytex, and stained the top and fronts of the drawers. My question is, what do I use to seal it with? I don't want it to be shiny, so would u use a wax for both the stain and paint? If so, what type is best. It's turning out better than I had hoped for... I don't want to ruin it now!

I would recommend good ole Johnson's paste wax. It will give it a nice luster without being shiny since you used satin. And yes, you can use it on both stain and paint. In the future for larger pieces you may want to consider making your own tung oil, much less expensive and it's a great wipe-on technique. I love it and have found it works great with chalk paint! Have fun.... : )

I would recommend using a water based polyacrylic to protect the paint-it's much more durable than wax and super easy to apply! We use General Finishes brand, and they make a "flat" polyacrylic, so it wouldn't be shiny and have a similar matte look to using wax but also protect the paint better! However, if you used an oil based stain (rather than a water based stain), you'd need to coat the stained areas with shellac prior to applying a water based polyacrylic, otherwise it won't as well!
