Pinterest.com or DIYnetwork.com or HGTV.com can tell you how to make one and give you lots of ideas on the style. Existing doors can be converted or custom doors built in a huge array of styles... thrift store finds and salvage doors can also be used as "barn style" doors.

Barn style doors are especially useful where space is at a premium, such as a small bathroom, where eliminating the area for door swing can add much needed space.

There are 3 types of hardware that can be used to hang the barn style door

1: "C" channel type... mounts above the door opening (and to the side where the door will be when open, wheels attach to the top of the door and run/ride inside the C channel

2: Rail type.... a special "rail" is mounted to the wall above the door opening (and to one or both sides) There are special brackets and wheels that attach to the top of the door. The wheels roll along the top of the rail.

3: Rail and wheels. The "rail" is made of galvanized water pipe (elbows, nipples and mounting flanges) and is mounted to the wall above the door or to the ceiling. Large "eye" bolts (large enough to go around the pipe, and slide along it easily) are screwed into the top of the door. Wheels or casters are mounted onto the bottom of the door. This method is often used with very heavy vintage doors, where you would not want to damage or mar the surface of the door itself.
