Color for kitchen cabinets and counters?

We moved into a house with a very dated kitchen. Floors are black and white tile. Cabinets are white with black trim. Counters are 2" black tiles. Backsplash is alternating black and white tiles. I hate it. We need to keep the floor, but I can paint the cabinets, and get new counters and backsplash. Note: Appliances are black. HELP!

there are paints to repaint appliances, some newer appliances have removable panels that can be traded out for a new look. Carpet runners for the floor in front of sink in an accent color could be cool.

You can paint the tile backsplash and/or countertops pretty inexpensively and spend money on bigger priorities. They sell kits. What about retro dinner or Italian, red accents and chrome chairs, etc. Not your thing? Pick your favorite colors and mix with the black and white - I love aqua with it, and dark grey would give it a more contemporary look. Add accents of yellow and oranges and go modern beach look. Go for it!

    Don't hide it--embrace it.

Go retro and get red or pink to complement it, or use the turquoise that is so popular now (as it was back in the 50s--a friend has a kitchen with the original stove and it's turquoise!)
