Get a ladder out and lift a few of the squares to see what is already up. you may find that the ceiling is already dry walled or plastered in which case it would be a fairly easy thing to remove the tile and metal frame to get back to the original. If you have rafters, you could install drywall at that point. If you like the drop ceiling there are a number of products that you can use to change it up, new fibre tiles, tin look, design tiles etc.
