stencils? Could even make them look like old metal/tin tiles with the right patterns and paint. Or pick some colors and randomly add colorful accent tiles on the ceiling. The tiles look in good shape, so it's just aesthetics. Maybe all you need is to paint it a color you enjoy looking at!
You can prime then paint. Don't be afraid of an actual light color.
Prime and paint.
We had a ceiling like this in our home -we ripped it out and replaced it with pine and what a difference. made the room look larger, updated and inviting.
I would prime and paint.
Plastic Ceiling board.
I had a few stains on mine in the kitchen from a leak above. I took prepasted wallpaper and it stuck SO easily. Just follow directions on the roll. Paint the edges a color in the paper and do the center of the room in wall paper squares. Just cut the size you need on cardboard and use it as a template instead of measuring each piece out and keep repeating the size until you have enough to do all of the tiles you want.
You could stencil or paint them. You could change the grout color with Maepi Greout refresh.
