Hi Melissa,
I'm Linda and I found instructions on a Home Depot website. This application show it being used on stairs, but the principle is the same if you will be using them on walls. I wish you success with your project!

Hi Melissa, if it is just short stretch where you are working you can use a long level and mark it with a light pencil line to get it straight. If it is a long stretch, you will need to use a string level which works the same but you hook it onto a chalk string to make your mark
String Spirit Level
Line levels (or "string" levels) are a special brand of spirit level used for leveling across longer distances. They can be attached to a tightly pulled string to find level between two stakes in the ground to find level

Melissa, there are a number of suggestions and tutorials in hometalk. Go to "explore projects" then "make over" then "walls" and you will find them. I chose one for you: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/walls/master-bedroom-peel-and-stick-vinyl-plank-accent-wall-39874888

I have used peel and stick wallpaper several times on my textured walls. It sticks without a problem, but you can see the texture through the paper if it is very light in color. I have used Target paper and it's very thin. I used some from Lowes that was darker and thicker and you really couldn't see the texture. Just do a test strip before you buy a huge amount.
It won't stick to textured walls unless you skim coat them with joint compound smooth. Best to prime first since someday you may want to remove the paper, and if the walls aren't primed, it can rip the paper right off the drywall.
Get yourself a tub of wallpaper glue. A lot of the peel and stick options nowadays don't always stick that well.
You could apply some wallpaper glue along the edges
The trick is to make sure your surface is completely clean, grease-free, and dry. Then you can apply with a plastic smoothing tool to press firmly into place. If you feel the paper's adhesive isn't strong enough you can add wallpaper glue to the wall before applying the paper.
Just wash the walls down from any dirt, grease, or residue before applying
You really should do prep first if you dont want a nightmare when removing. Put a coat of wall paper prep on, sold at stand alone paint stores or apply a coat of oil base paint to seal the walls.
Wipe down the walls and make sure all holes are patched up.
I’ve used marble pattered stick on wall paper and brick. It looks great! The most important thing is making sure you lay it slowly, avoiding air bubbles. Other than that, it looks real!
If you're planning to do a room or a large wall, I would not go there. If you're planning to use it on a small wall or small space, go for it. It also depends on your walls and the wall finish. The smoother the wall, the better the adhesion. Remember that peel and stick is temporary - not like the nearly lifetime of adhesion you get with real wall paper and paste.
I've used it in small quantities for a bookshelf and a wall panel. It was easier to use than I thought it would be. Go slowly and use a squeegee.

Peel off about 12 inches of the adhesive backing and line the wallpaper up with your lines, starting from the highest point you'll be wallpapering. Moving from top to bottom, press and smooth the wallpaper against the wall while peeling off the remaining backing.

Hi Melissa: I've used it and it's a bit tricky. If yours has a pattern, put the first strip up. Use a plumb bob (something to make a straight line from ceiling to floor so that your stirp is straight. Here's a video of how to do it, and even though she's starting at a corner, if your corner isn't straight down to the floor, start about 8" from the corner so that your paper hangs straight. Then, put your next roll up, without taking off the backing, so that you know how much you need to leave at the top to match the pattern. Once you have the right amount, follow the instructions in this video. Plan on a lot of time and prep your wall first. You can do this!

Be sure you're applying to a a smoothly finished wall or you'll have issues with the peel & stick sticking well. Start with a thoroughly clean wall and having a helper is a real plus!
First you want to make sure surface is clean so wipe with soapy water (blue dawn is my go to) and let dry. Then measure and cut a few inches longer than your first drop to allow for lining up. Peel slowly and then press in place. I like to use a damp cloth to press down. After first drop us in place, trim excess. After that you will need to match your pattern for the following drops. Depending on the repeat you can lose several inches. Continue until the area is covered.
