Have been on a back porch but not in the rain.
use Citristrip to remove the paint
My Son sanded ours and then used Rustolem spray paint.
Call a "Bead Blasting" company tell them what you have and see if they recommend them blasting. This is one way to clean up old stoves and other iron items.
Try using CItriStrip for the paint and then you can try crumbled aluminum foil to rub off some rust. I investing in a Dremel tool which allows to wire brush rust off of outdoor furniture.
Depending on the age and condition, bead or sand blasting may Be too abrasive and damaging. Try hand sanding first. Then prime with Rustoleum and finish with whichever color best suits you and the project.
A chemical stripper to remove the paint, Naval Jelly to remove the rust... Rustoleum rusty metal primer and Paint.... you might also consider having the glider "soda" blasted and professionally powder coated... that way it will be protected for a really long time.... and you won't need to repaint every year.
