STOP... before you move or install anything regarding your mailbox.... check with your Mail Carrier or your delivering Post Office... and find out all the requirements. Plantings around your mailbox should be lower growing height wise... avoid things with thorns, and blooms that might attract bees or wasps, etc. Avoid plants that can grow tall enough to hide the address number, name or the mailbox itself.

In Fl. not good for flowers around the mailbox. Bees bugs and yes even snakes can harm and hurt. That includes when you go to get your mail.
In areas where the street maintenance crew uses salt, the flowers will not grow very well, unless your mailbox is farther back from the street.
I would place mailbox on a steal and plant a fun box around the base. Using brick is also an option. Tools will be necessary like a saw and drill if using wood.
i Would leave the flowers away from the box. The mail person could be allergic and get stung.
