Half the mustache fell off my 3’ nutcracker. How can I repair it? Nutcracker is made of some type of fibrous material, not plastic, not wood.
What is the base material of the surface? It looks like canvas. I have had great luck with spray polyurethane. It will probably work on other surfaces. Several light thorough coats will do the trick.
Is there any tag or manufacturing information on the reverse side? I would certainly contact them to ask their explaination regarding this unexpected outdoor aging.
You could finish it one of two ways -a thick multi coat hand applied brush or a thin aerosol spray. They would look different from each other.
Additionally need to think about this unit you want if you want a matte; satin or high-gloss finish —-make that determination with choosing your final sealer choice.
One idea-finishing it with a brush on poly sealer meant for outdoor use. When I did my corn hole sets —though they’re not stored outdoors I put 6-8 coats of sealer on and you can tell it has a nice thick glassy protective layer.
If you do use a spray on sealer —that might work but you may need to replenish it as it weathers or sustains UV deterioration. I used to spray on sealer on this pallet project but again I did want a want weathered finish —I did scuff sand the pallet project after painting it to gave a more unfinished weathered look. This pallets been outdoors leaning on my shed, one year and doing ok.
That is the coolest octopus!
Mod Podge....http://www.michaels.com/brands/mod-podge/b_modpodge
I think by outdoor they meant in a sheltered shady spot (as they often do). I would try to modge podge the peeling bits back down. This could give an interesting antiqued crackle look to it. I would gently pull off peeling bit, apply modge podge to canvas and place peely bit back where it was, flattening it (as it looks curly). Carry on until all pieces are secured back on picture. Let dry thoroughly.
Go to hardware store and enquire about a water proof sealant to apply to the picture. I would seal front and back of canvas. Moisture can ruin your picture from the back too.
What Cwhittaker says.... seal with a clear Spar Varnish or other OUTDOOR sealer.... from the front and the back....if you have had humid weather... take it inside for about a week so the material dries out completely... you do not want to seal moisture between the layers of sealer.
Try clear sticky plastic .. it says for carpet but should work. I'd cut it longer so it wraps around back n could fasten with a cardboard strip n little staples to hold cardboard strip to backside that holds the plastic down!
