Iowa has distinct seasons there is omg cold.nov.december, January. chilly...Feb march and April, getting nice-may June July, broiling august, September, getting cool october. all with higher humidity levels. there are days you can loose 2 pounds by sweating. the dehumidifier pulls the extra water vapor from the air, condenses it to water.

Google “best dehumidifiers” to understand your choices. You need to decide, considering the layout of your house, if you need one large or several small units, and how they’ll drain.
Have you spoken with your heating/ac company? Your air conditioner should be dehumidifying more effectively. Before buying anything, I’d call them out for an evaluation, or call out a few contractors.
