Hope this gets answered because I could use the tip too.
Bar Keeper's Friend cleanser. It comes in liquid and powder. You can find it with the cleansers, like Comet or Soft Scrub.
If it is chrome you can use Diet Coke and aluminum foil. Take it outside. Put the coke on the rod and rub it with wadded up aluminum foil. Or, use CLR rubbed on with a sponge (kind of expensive) or, go to an autoparts store and buy a product called Semi-chrome polish. Comes in a tube, use a rag to rub it on and a clean cloth to rub it off...sort of like waxing a car. Or...vinegar and baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda of affected area and, using a spray bottle, spray on the vinegar. It will fizz some, then rub it off it off with a clean cloth. I have used all of these ideas, other people have posted throughout the internet, to clean chrome, aluminum, steel and other items with pretty good success.
Good Luck.
I think Don has some great ideas, I have also used the vinegar and baking soda method. That works but it does require a lot of "elbow grease". DO NOT use any form of commercial rust remover, it will ruin the coating on the shower rod. Good luck, please post what you did and the results. Thanks.
I would love to see your Cedar Crosses😍
Try Black Magic engine treatment. Just dab some on a old rag and rub it in. It works really well with rusted motorcycle weels and steel handlebars.
