I would paint the wall white now before you install the boards. it is far easier to paint a flat wall then trying to paint it later after the boards are up. And I would prime and paint the boards before I put them up--adding a second coat of paint once they are up. Prime your boards first with a good primer--you will have much better paint coverage than if you just tried painting over raw wood. It's going to look very nice! Have fun!
I think the bottom and the trim should be white, I've always loved that look
