I might be thinking of a new refridgerator. It is a blessing that your fridge has worked this long-33 years is a long life! It might not be worth calling a repair man to come and fix it. Usually there is a minimum fee for mileage and service call as well as the price for parts and repair labor.
We once had the most terrible screeching, intolerable actually, and it was our ice maker. Perhaps yours is trying to rise from the grave.
Any fridge that is over 30 years old and still working is great. But here is a site that might help:

The ice maker is probably the most likely suspect, even though it does not work, see if it is being interfered with (the metal bar raising and lowering), blocked by frozen food, move anything that may be in its way. That might silence it.
Could be the condenser fan motor got air trapped in it

I know older appliances were much more reliable, but maybe it's time. Our last fridge a 90s model, only lasted about half as long as yours. A new fridge, while costly, will probably be more energy efficient.
