Hi Bob, If your deck is flat with no railings, you could use a roller with a long handle so you don't have to bend over. If you need to prep it first, use a power washer. Again, you won't have to do much bending at all. If you have railings, use a smaller roller with a long handle. I think you can get a roller that is 4", and that should get in between the rails. If you have grand kids, maybe they could help!

    Good luck!

Regular paint or stain? Just use a roller on a long handle for either. Pour paint into regular paint pan , roll direction of wood grain ..obviously toward the deck entrance so you don’t get trapped might need 2 coats. Good luck.. Im old too and like to also do things myself when possible .

Use a roller and buy a long handle to screw into the roller handle. You can find them at any hardware store. Will make it so much easier.

I think Suzette's ideas are best for your situation. I love using a sprayer, but this would require extensive prep work. I would use a large roller (18") to make short work on the decking and a smaller one with a shorter handle for the rails and spindles
