This looks like an outdoor switch that has seen better days. it is best to replace it with a new/modern/waterproof one. You already have the box/wiring it is an easy replacement.

The switch is for a swimming pool light and after contacting the hardware store found out it was a simple wall switch like used indoors that has a loop over it that slipped off works like a charm now after I reattached it thanks for everyone's help..
