Sara on Jun 02, 2014Generally walls are to be darker, baseboards are to be lighter, but really it depends on the effect you are looking for. A burgundy trim against a white/light background can be majestic.Helpful Reply

Michaela Edwards on Jun 02, 2014if you paint go with a high gloss on the trimming and baseboards. It make it look allot better and it is easier to clean up. :)Helpful Reply

Jane R. on Jun 02, 2014Thank you for the suggestions but this doesn't answer my question because I really want to know about the color. Are they supposed to be the same or slightly different in shade?Helpful Reply

Jeanne Williams on Jun 02, 2014I paint my trim and baseboards the same color as my ceiling. I don't use ceiling paint on my ceiling. My dad painted a lot of rooms and always painted the trim a contrasting color. I think it just depends on what a person prefersHelpful Reply

Jennifer G on Jun 02, 2014The color is really a personal preference, not a rule. Most people paint the trim a lighter shade than the walls. If you have very small floorboards (less than 2"), it's easier to paint it the same color as the walls and then paint the door trim, doors and window trim a slightly lighter shade. If you have larger floor moldings, paint it the same color as the rest of the trim. Hope this helps :)Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Jun 02, 2014Trim, whether baseboards or window trim, traditionally are not the same colour as the walls, and are generally lighter than the walls. Or to avoid the decision, install wood baseboards and stain - these will be darker, will complement any colour you use on the walls, and will help ground the room..Helpful Reply

Diana Deiley on Jan 21, 2016Your choice. One suggestion: walls eggshell or satin, baseboards in semi gloss, but same color. Have fun. It's only paint.Helpful Reply
