Why not try to make a POM POM rug ...they are so cute ...
You can also buy Painters canvas drop cloth. It’s pretty big so maybe each child can have their own. Cut to size, raw edges can be frayed then stitch to stop fray. Tape off a design, or print a design with fruit, blocks, leaves, or free hand Pollack style. Use Acrylics.
Also dip dye would be fun😏outdoors...
