how do you remove tileboard from plaster and lathe walls without destroying the walls or should I just drywall over it?

By tile board, do you mean paneling that’s made to look like tile?
You know that one can’t nail into plaster & lathe without the trampoline-effect. So, if you veneer over the whole thing in 1/4” drywall (not 1/2”) then it will have to be screwed in and hope you hit studs and lathe at a minimum.
I’d take it all off as my plaster & lathe houses were built in 1910 and the old cloth-insulated wiring was a fire hazard and the exterior walls had no insulation.
YES! That is the stuff. There is no electrical wiring there and it actually backs up to an interior wall in the Kitchen, but one wall is exterior. Thanks for the reply! My house was a 1934 built home and it still has the original footed cast iron tub. The casting date was sept. 1936 so it was probably original to the house
