Hi Julia! If you're going for a light fabric or lace, I've always found they are easier and less expensive to buy than to make. However, if you want to make them, I've made lace and linen valances that can be modified into cafe curtains, just alter the length and move your bar. My look is more farmhouse/ cottage style than French, but it's really the fabric and surrounding decor that makes that difference. Hope that helps!
