You can buy shower faucets that just screw into the water pipe. The old ones also unscrew, but if you have a mineral deposit problem, you con't have to buy a new one. You did not say, but if you fill a zip lock bag with vinegar and put it over the shower head as is, and zip it closed so it stays, it will soak all the minerals out of the faucet and make it usable again. Soak it all night or all day or both. The longer the better. Then I use a paper clip or tooth pick to poke in the holes to clean out anything still stuck in them. It is not hard to do and the vinegar really helps loosen everything and dissolves the minerals. Hope this helps and saves you buying a new one, if this was the problem.
Check out the videos for a "how to" site. It will be much easier for you to follow the directions. Just be sure to shut off your water before starting.
