How do I preserve an acrylic painting that will be exposed to weather?
I am painting a sign with my house numbers (and my version of a tree) that will be attached to a gate post. What can I use as a protective clear coat? It will be exposed to a lot of rain and snow.
Thank you!

Rust-oliom makes a outside spray for that and canvas (its not clear or enamel) I'm sorry I can't remember the name, but your hardware store will know. Good luck🙂
Hi Diane! Check out these sites! You can also check with your local hardware store, Home Depot or Lowe's for great help!

You can spray it with some marine spar varnish. Make sure you spray all the sides, front and back.
There are outdoor polyurethanes available at your local hardware store in the paint department. Someone there can advise you best based on the material you painted on.
We had a huge rock we put to one side of our farm driveway. I got peal and stick numbers (our house #) and stuck them on the rock. I sprayed them 3 or 4 times with clear high gloss varnish but really didnt expect them to stay on too long. That was in around 2002. We sold the farm in 2006. Drove past several times since then and now in 2018, they numbers are still on. 16 years!!!
