As a kid, there were advertisements for DIY fireplace logs made from rolled newspapers. How did they stay rolled up? Maybe a little melted wax?

Pottery yarn bowls are a thing. They are lovely and really cool looking, but not cheap (maybe ask for one for Christmas or birthday - pretty easy to find at art fairs. You can fake one but cutting a hole in a plastic tub with a lid and sanding the hole smooth. Put yarn ball in the tub, poke the end out the hole, cover it with the lid. Might want to weight it down by putting a book on top or something.
I use a tote bag to hold my yarn, sitting on the floor to my left.
