How can I paint the night sky on my ceiling?
I have just bought my first house and I want to paint the night sky in the tray of my ceiling but am not that great of a painter. Does anyway know of easier way to take on a such a feat? Or I was thinking if I could find a paint by numbers type of paper or link I could project onto my ceiling. That’s my only idea but haven’t found anything paint by numbers I Clint use.

Take Photos of the sky you want to reproduce. Then set to work with emulsion paints.

there are LOTS of choices
I think I'd probably go for a decal option myself there's some beautiful ones available now and much easier than painting - especially on a ceiling :)
Hi Aimee, I agree that Paint By Numbers is a Challenge.
Plus it is sometimes harder to maintain if you do not use a Medium like: Glass or Plexiglass between the Paint by Numbers Pages and the Paint.
There is however, if you do show interest in than an App for Android and also several websites that Do all of the Color Seperations of any Photograph to Create a Color Scheme for Paint by Numbers.
Other Options however more Recommend as those are maintainable such as: Screen Printed Fabric.
These recommend Mainly because: you can

Etsy has a night sky ceiling murals in 3D. If that is not what you like just Goggle night sky murals. Easiest way and beautiful. I did one for a friend , it was large so I cut in quarters to apply, just have to make sure you match edges when installing. I'm going to do a galaxy nebula mural in my bedroom.

You can go on the site Spoonflower. They have wallpaper of the solar system and you can also design your own. You could paint the ceiling a dark color and if you use wallpaper cut out what you want and put it onthe ceiling. Try and match the paint to the wallpaper background.
Good luck!
Many years ago I painted a starry night on my daughter’s ceiling with glow in the dark paint. I kept the ceiling white or off white then painted a half moon, a few shooting stars, a few galaxies, and lots of stars. If you have a crafty friend to help you with the moon and shooting stars, you can do the rest of the stars yourself.
The best time to do this is nighttime. You will need a couple of paint brushes and new pencils with different size erasers. To paint the numerous stars dip the eraser end of the pencils into the glow in the dark paint and with the eraser straight up lightly touch the ceiling. Touch the ceiling several times or more as to show depth otherwise you will create poke a dots. Also don’t place your moon directly in the middle of you ceiling. Place it off center.
I painted a mural in my other daughter’s room. This mural had a sun in it so with the glow in the dark painted over the sun a full moon and highlighted the rest of the mural where I thought the moon would shine.
I used the transparent glow in the dark paint. It has a slight yellow color so you could slightly see it in the daytime on the ceiling but you couldn’t see it at all on the painted mural.
Happy creating!
My brother and I did this in his bedroom when we were kids! We painted the ceiling and walls deep blue and then we bought star decals. Using photos of the big and little dipper, etc. we reproduced the night sky. Bonus was they glowed in the dark! They sell glow in the dark star decals on Amazon. Truly a labor of love but one you will cherish. Good luck!
Check out this method on Amazon. It's a giant stencil! https://www.amazon.com/Encambio-Alcrea-Reproduction-indications-Walls-Astronomy/dp/B07B49QCJR/ref=sr_1_51?ie=UTF8&qid=1546719089&sr=8-51&keywords=night%2Bsky%2Bceiling&th=1
