I need help. How do you convert old fashioned drapery hooks for curtains with pleats into fitting a rod with rings. I ha
The drapes are the best quality I have ever seen. I don't want to waste them.
Hi, Caitlin,
First of all, you need to decide what style you want: rod type, grommet type, traverse, Roman shade, etc. You'l find plenty of on line video help through You Tube. Some are obviously more professional in appearance and procedures.
Measure your window width and length, including rod width and height.
Determine if you want curtains to break at sill, below lower frame, or at floor.
Curtains made from burlap will filter light and air, unless you choose to line them.
Curtains of burlap can be 2 to 2.5 times the width of window plus rods, plus overlaps, if making overlapping style which will be secured to wall, at outer sides.
If you want tie backs, you can make them or purchase.
You'll need to fold over edges, allow for hems, and press all seams flat prior to securing with sewing machine or by hand.
Lower hems are usually weighted, with mitered corners, for a more professional appearance.
